Today ancient Noto is a medieval archaeological site, yet to be discovered. After the 1693 earthquake, the ancient city of Noto, in the middle of the Baroque period, was rebuilt in another place and the ancient city was abandoned. The first excavation campaign in ancient Noto by Paolo Orsi dates back to the period between 1894 and 1896. In the following years there will be other excavation campaigns, in which other architectural and sculptural relics will be found. They are today part of the collection of the Civic Museum. A survey on distribution, phenology and status of large branchiopod crustaceans (Branchiopoda: Anostraca, Notostraca, Spinicaudata) in Sicily and in circum-Sicilian islands was carried out from autumn 2000 to winter 2004/2005 with the purpose of providing an organised contribution to the knowledge of the distribution of these crustaceans in the region. Data from literature on Sicilian large branchiopods has been briefly reviewed, and field surveys allowed us to add new data on their actual consistency in the area. The church of the Jesuit Order in the ancient city of Noto was destroyed, as the rest of the city, by the earthquake that stroke the Oriental part of Sicily in 1693. Thanks to recent researches conducted into the EFIAN Project (Experimental Fruition Ingenious Ancient Noto) it is possible to retrace the complex history of the building, realizing a 3D model of a hypothetical configuration of the complete church as well. The comparison between surveys and archival documents (especially plans preserved at the BnF) revealed also that the church was uncomplete at the date of the earthquake.
